Project Experience

The following is a list of projects and initiatives in which our President has played a leading or major role in implementing.

·         Union Station Revitalization Project, City of Toronto:  – Major transportation hub reconstruction/expansion project in downtown Toronto consisting of multi-phases/stages to ensure that facility remained operational during all construction work.  GC/CM contract for Staged Construction of Union Station with an awarded value of $450 million.  Stipulated Price Lump Sum Contract for Stage 2/3 construction of Union Station in the awarded value of approximately $200M.    Various consulting assignments of approximately $70 million. [As Principal Engineer (Project Director) for the project 2008-2018]

·         GO TRIP Program, GO Transit - Federally funded program (GO TRIP) of improvements to GO Transit’s commuter rail system.  The corridor improvements included station improvements, track improvements, rail / rail grade separations, rail / road crossing improvements and associated signal work. ·         Road, Sewer, Watermain Capital Program, City of Guelph - Annual capital program of various capital infrastructure projects across the City including bridges, annual asphalt resurfacing, roads, watermains, storm/sanitary sewers and subdivisions.

·         Road, Sewer, Watermain Capital Program, Region of Peel – Annual capital program of various infrastructure projects across the Region.

·         Highway 401 widening at CN York Subdivision, Pickering - Installation of permanent 37m CPDG and 54 m truss bridges over future collector lanes for Hwy 401 including installation of approximately 15 temporary spans. [Project Manager]

·         Gordon Street Reconstruction, City of Guelph – Reconstruction of Gordon Street from Speed River to Waterloo Avenue

·         Gordon Street Reconstruction, City of Guelph – Reconstruction and widening of Gordon Street from Edinburgh Road to Clair Road

·         Various Grade Separation Project, Ontario - Numerous grade separation projects including Hwy 407/MacMillan Yard, 407/Brampton Intermodal Terminal, 407/Newmarket Subdivision, Winston Churchill Drive (Mississauga), Guelph Line (Burlington), Wellington Street (Woodstock), John Street (Paris) plus more.

·         Construction of Third mainline from Oakville to Burlington for GO Transit service expansion – Civil works for over 20 miles of roadbed; one new major rail yard, 300m multi-span rail bridge, civil/building work for 3 transit stations plus track and signals.

·         Precast Tunnel installations—Tuck and Shoreacres Creeks, Burlington – simultaneous installation of 78 precast tunnel open cut installation during a 72-hour work block at two locations on the CN mainline through Burlington.

·         Other Projects – Intermodal yards, Pier Protection (Niagara River), Rail Yard Expansion (Oakville), GO Station improvements (various), building/office/warehouse renovations, steel transfer facility, Jack and Bore installations, Bridge sandblasting and painting, slope stabilization, concrete rehabilitation, fall protection, signal towers and more.

Management

Some highlights of management achievements:

·      Successfully gained council support and endorsement for an 8 year, 260% percent increase in funding for infrastructure renewal.

·      Conducted a best practices review of Engineering Department structures within Ontario prior to implementing new organizational structure within Engineering.

·      Successfully placed Infrastructure Sustainability on senior management and political agendas.

·      Provided oversight and direction to the development of GWATS; the Guelph/Wellington master transportation plan.

·      Earned respect of mayor/councillors and established an improved view of the engineering department.

·      Implemented asset management systems for infrastructure in the Engineering Department.

·      Through knowledge of financial aspects of the Development Charges Act, identified additional funding of over $5 million towards the Civic Administration Building.
